Pre-Birth Acupuncture North Vancouver | Natural Labour Preparation & Induction

Pre-Birth Acupuncture
As an acupuncturist and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, I have the honour of supporting women through every stage of their motherhood journey — from preconception and pregnancy through to childbirth and postpartum care. It is very meaningful work.
While acupuncture plays a supportive role throughout your entire pregnancy, it comes into its own in your final weeks of third trimester. Pre-birth acupuncture is one of the most effective natural ways to prepare your body for labour — helping to ripen the cervix, encourage your baby into an optimal position, and calm your nervous system so you can walk into birth feeling grounded and ready.
Whether you're planning ahead to start treatments at 36 weeks, approaching your due date, or looking for natural labour induction acupuncture at 40+ weeks, these treatments enhance your body's own wisdom.
I offer pre-birth/cervical ripening acupuncture in North Vancouver at my Lynn Valley clinic and in Vancouver at Broadway & Cambie.

★★★★★
"I came in at 37 weeks feeling exhausted and honestly a bit terrified. After four sessions with Jen, I felt like a different person going into my birth — calm, ready, and so much more trusting of my body. My labour was quicker than I ever expected. I truly believe these treatments made all the difference."
WHAT ARE PRE-BIRTH TREATMENTS?
Treatments in the Final Weeks of Pregnancy
Throughout pregnancy, your cervix stays closed and firm — perfectly designed to hold and protect your growing baby. As your due date approaches, it begins to soften, thin, and open in a process called cervical ripening, preparing the way for birth.
Starting at week 36 to 37, pre-birth acupuncture is a weekly series of treatments designed to prepare you for childbirth.
“Pre-birth acupuncture offers a range of positive effects that goes beyond reducing the time spent in labour, with midwives reporting a reduced rate of medical intervention”
~Debra Betts - Midwife & Acupuncturist
THE RESEARCH
Evidence-Backed Birth Preparation
A Cochrane review found that acupuncture and acupressure may increase cervical readiness for labour — meaning your body is more prepared and responsive when birth begins.
A separate study found that pre-birth acupuncture supports cervical ripening at term and can shorten the interval between your estimated due date and actual delivery — fewer days of waiting, and less pressure to intervene.
"Pre-birth acupuncture helps expectant mothers prepare their body, mind, and spirit for labour and delivery.
Having experienced an efficient birth myself, I love sharing my story with clients — it instills hope and deepens trust in the body's natural wisdom.
Beyond birth preparation, these treatments offer a deeply restorative treatment in late pregnancy, leaving women feeling calm and supported."

"Hi Jen, I just wanted to update you that my baby arrived. The birth went AMAZING, so easy and relaxed. Thank you for the prep work we did that helped make this possible!"
LABOUR INDUCTION AT 40+ WEEKS
If you've reached your due date or are approaching an induction date, specific acupuncture points may encourage your body to begin labour naturally. Many clients find this a gentle alternative or complement to medical induction. Sessions at this stage are focused and purposeful, working with the same principles as pre-birth treatments but with greater intensity on labour-inviting points.
If you're at or past 40 weeks, please book as soon as possible.

SUPPORT BETWEEN TREATMENTS
Acupuncture is the anchor and the following practices work beautifully alongside your treatments to deepen your preparation between appointments:
1. Move gently — Walking or swimming for 20–30 minutes, 2–3 times each week
2. Nurture flexibility — Prenatal yoga or Tai Chi, twice each week
3. Quiet your mind — Mindful relaxation, meditation or visualization for 5–10 minutes each day
4. Rest intentionally — 20 to 30 minutes of dedicated rest each day
Together, these practices help your body and nervous system build steadiness for labour.
